The Centre for Cultural Studies is pleased to announce that funding has been awarded for the research project “Global Currents in Translingual Poetry: Tracing Language, Geography, and Culture in Contemporary Anglophone Literatures.” This support was secured through a competitive selection process under the ARQUS alliance. The project, set to launch in early December 2024, focuses on a largely unexplored art form: translingual poetry.
Translingual poetry is written in the authors' second language, and characterised by its ability to transcend linguistic, geographic, and cultural boundaries. Thus, the project makes a significant contribution to fostering intercultural dialogue, which has become increasingly urgent in the face of rising nationalism worldwide.
Both the project and the participating universities benefit greatly from this international collaboration. The partnership with Vilnius University supports the conceptual advancement of the project, while the international doctoral training at the University of Graz is further strengthened and expanded. The project is led by Christine Schwanecke, with Professor Rūta Šlapkauskaitė from Vilnius University as the cooperating partner.
