A fundamental characteristic of emotions is that they connect an individual's past, present and future. More generally, people experience temporality through emotions, which also help them to evaluate social situations from the past and project themselves into the future. The talk will give an insight into sociology of emotions in general before delving deeper into nostalgia and hope. The social embedding of both emotions and their ability to provide temporal orientation will be demonstrated.
