'Thinking through Art: Aesthetic Perspectives on Contemporary Practices'
hosted by the Zentrum für Kulturwissenschaften on Friday 7 May 2021 (10:00 - 14:00) - online via uniMEET.

Dr Anne-Grit Becker (Graz): 'The Eden Plan. Oiticica's Whitechapel Experiment'
Dr Karoline Gritzner (Graz): 'Thinking through Theatre: Materiality, Expression, the Sublime'
In this workshop we consider different artistic practices (visual arts, installation, performance art, theatre) and ask what kinds of philosophical questions and problems are raised through the encounter with art.
Indicative questions:
- What is the relationship between experience and knowledge, sensation and thought, aesthetics and consciousness in artistic practice?
- What are the claims of post-conceptual art?
- To what extent and how does contemporary art explore ideas of the sublime?
- What is the relationship between immanence and transcendence in aesthetic experience?
- How can we understand art as event, critique, revolution?
- What is art's relationship to knowledge?
