On May 19, 2025, Prof. Annika McPherson (Augsburg) will give a guest lecture entitled "'Take, Take Me Home'? Journeys and Quests from Colonial Adventure Fiction to Global Anglophone Young Adult Literature". The lecture will take place in SR 11.11 (Department of English Studies, Heinrichstraße 36).
Univ. Prof. Annika McPherson is a tenured professor at the University of Augsburg where she chairs the Department of New English Literatures and Cultures. She has worked extensively in the field of postcolonial studies, cultural theory, and critical diversity studies, with particular emphasis on global Anglophone literature and cultures. Her research interests also include popular culture, including film, television, comics, music, and social media. Her recent publications include, White – Female – Postcolonial: Towards a 'Trans-cultural' Reading of Marina Warner's INDIGO and Barbara Kingsolver's THE POISONWOOD BIBLE, Practices of Resistance in the Caribbean: Narratives, Aesthetics and Politics, as well as “Perilous Journeys Across Gender and Genre: Nnedi Okorafor’s Akata Witch and Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone” and “Negotiating Gender and Spirituality in Literary Representations of Rastafari.”
