Workshop: Thinking through art: aesthetic perspectives on contemporary practices

In this workshop we approach different artistic practices (visual arts, installation, performance, theatre) and ask what kinds of philosophical questions and problems are raised through the encounter with art.
Topics for discussion include:
- tensions between the aesthetic and the non-aesthetic in post-conceptual art
- the relations between experience and knowledge, sensation and thought, aesthetics and consciousness in artistic practice
- the emergence of post-Kantian figurations of the sublime in contemporary art and theatre
- desire and aesthetic experience
- materialist aesthetics and the speculative turn
- art as event
A selection of relevant texts for reading into the topic will be sent to participants in advance of the workshop.
